Sun comes up through the pines on the ridge
Mist rollin’ slow through the holler below
Old screen door creaks on a weathered porch
Coffee’s hot and the woodstove glows
Ain’t much money in these old hills
But there’s pride in the work we do
Dirt road runnin’ past the mailbox
And a sky that’s wide and blue
‘Cause life ain’t easy in these mountains high
But they’re ours, every rock and pine
From the coal-black earth to the clear creek run
This old life suits me fine
Ain’t nobody botherin’ us up here
Where the wild winds roam free
Yeah the world can keep its busy ways
I’ll take the simple life for me
Friday night down at Miller’s barn
Fiddle cryin’ and the banjo rings
Kids run wild in the firefly glow
While the old men laugh and sing
Mama’s pie on the windowsill
Sweet tea sweatin’ in the shade
We ain’t rich by the world’s own count
But we got all the wealth God made
‘Cause life ain’t easy in these mountains high
But they’re ours, every rock and pine
From the coal-black earth to the clear creek run
This old life suits me fine
Ain’t nobody botherin’ us up here
Where the wild winds roam free
Yeah the world can keep its busy ways
I’ll take the simple life for me
Let the cities chase their neon lights
And the highways chase their gold
I’ll stay right here where the ridges stand
Like they have for years untold
‘Cause life ain’t easy in these mountains high
But they’re ours and that’s the truth
Every trail and every timber line
Feels like home from my youth
Ain’t nobody botherin’ us up here
Where the stars burn wild and bright
Yeah the world can keep its busy ways
I’ll take the simple life tonight.
