Got a call one night from a man down south
Said, Boys I need your shine
So we filled them jars in the old pine shed
And loaded up the line
Three good boys and a rattlin’ truck
Headlights cuttin’ black
Rolled out slow through the mountain dark
With a hundred jars in the back
We were rollin’ hard for the Georgia line
Through the night so cold and deep
But the law don’t rest and the road don’t hide
From the promises you keep
When them blue lights burned in my mirror bright
Lord I knew that ride was steep
‘Cause the devil himself don’t chase that hard
Like that damn GSP
We slipped past counties and little towns
Where the courthouse clocks still sleep
Kept them tires hummin’ on crooked roads
Where the shadows runnin’ deep
But the sun was risin’ in Georgia pines
When them lights come flashin’ down
That patrol car roared like a thunderstorm
And he stuck to us like a hound
We were flyin’ fast down them Georgia roads
With the engine screamin’ heat
But the law don’t tire and the road runs long
When the chase won’t see defeat
And that trooper rode like a man possessed
Lord that man don’t ever sleep
I swear he’d chase us straight through hell
That damn old GSP
He stayed right tight on our back tailgate
Every mile and every bend
Then that cruiser slid and hit us hard
Like the judgment of a friend
Truck spun wild and the jars all crashed
Corn liquor floodin’ the ground
We bailed out quick through the Georgia woods
With the sirens howlin’ loud
Well, it’s bush bond time for us mountain boys
We ran real fast through the pines and briar
Hearin’ boots behind our feet
When a rusted Ford from Tennessee
Come rollin’ up the street
That ol’ boy hollered, Jump on in
Didn’t ask no why or when
We piled inside and he stomped the gas
And them hills saved us again
Well we made it back to them mountain roads
But we lost that load that week
All them jars and that good corn shine
To that damn GSP
Now if Georgia calls for a midnight run
We just laugh and shake our heads
‘Cause I ain’t runnin’ them southern roads
With that damn GSP ahead
