Sun sinkin’ slow on a red dirt lane
Coal dust still ridin’ in my veins
Boots by the door, work day’s done
Holler’s turnin’ gold in the evenin’ sun
Screen door creaks like an old church hymn
That porch swing sways in the mountain wind
Jar of shine sweats on the rail
Lord, this life ain’t never failed
Front porch swingin’ in the cool fall air
Moonshine burn and my darlin’ right there
Arm around the woman that stood by me
Through the coal dust years and the hard-earned pay
Grandkids laughin’ in the yard below
Fireflies dancin’ in the amber glow
Ain’t no riches a man could bring
Like West Virginia front porch swingin’
Them hills raised boys tough and proud
Sunday mornin’ hymns sung loud
Hands like stone from the mines all day
But a soft old heart when the young’uns play
Her head leans down on my shoulder bone
Feels like the only peace I’ve known
Crickets hum and the whippoorwill sings
While that old porch swing creaks and swings
Front porch swingin’ in the cool fall air
Moonshine burn and my darlin’ right there
Arm around the woman that stood by me
Through the coal dust years and the hard-earned pay
Grandkids laughin’ in the yard below
Fireflies dancin’ in the amber glow
Ain’t no riches a man could bring
Like West Virginia front porch swingin’
We ain’t got much but the Lord knows well
These mountain roots run deep as hell
From black lung prayers to supper bells
These hills got stories they still tell
Front porch swingin’ in the cool fall air
Moonshine burn and my darlin’ right there
Arm around the woman that stood by me
Through the coal dust years and the hard-earned pay
Grandkids laughin’ in the yard below
Fireflies dancin’ in the amber glow
Ain’t no life a man could bring
Like West Virginia front porch swingin’
